Hi sammy

If the swelling hasn’t gone down yet, you definitely need to take your dog in to see your vet. Abscesses on the roof of the mouth can still develop even though the teeth look healthy. They can start deep within the gums and spread.

I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of a bee or wasp sting. The month of March is usually the time when bees and wasps become active weather permitting. This is just one possibility.

Let us know what the vet thinks is the problem.

Definately let us know!!

My Bert had surgery back in November to have a growth removed from the roof of his mouth that was pushing out from behind his front teeth.

There is always the chance of growths being cancerous, but my vet was pretty comfortable not worrying about. (I did enough of that for both of us!!)

This was also an excellent time for teeth cleaning and general dental check up.

Another thing to consider - if your vet decides to remove the growth, check into having your dog microchipped at the same time. It goes alot faster while the dog is under anesthesia.

Thanks for asking Oceangirl..I got her to her vet today. The vet isnt sure yet if its an infection or a tumor. She put her on an antibiotic and steriods for now and if this doesn't work we have to go back in two weeks for a biopsy of the roof of the mouth. The vet said if it is cancer and she removes it it will leave a huge whole in the roof of her mouth. So she kinda said we may want to consider doing this or maybe putting her down. So now its a waiting game and I can only pray for the best here! I dont know what I would do without her..She is about 7 years old now.

Good luck Samantha, I'll be thinking of you and your dog. For what it's worth, I had severe neck surgery done on my 10-year old dog and he lived for 5 more years. I'm so glad that I didn't put him down -- those last 5 years were our best (got a divorce from the mean man and doggy and I were very happy Smile

Also, remember that animals are much more resiliant about recovering from surgery than people. I have a 3-legged, 18-year old cat that can run like the wind! She's proof that animals can adjust.

I know you'll make the best decision for you and your dog. Good luck and I'll say a pooch prayer Wink
