... feed your doggies cooked rice and cottage cheese.

my moms dog is on a strict rice and cottage cheese diet to try and find out what he is allergic to, but you can feed it to your dogs anytime.

it fills them up, they think they are special for eating 'people food' and its fairly healthy for them for up to a week before they start needing other food for the nutrients.
the only downside that we have noticed was the horrible gas dog had the first night, but he gets gas from anything. Roll Eyes

hopefully her dog isn't lactose intolerant and that is why he is reacting that way to the cottage cheese.....just a thought.

nope, it was just gas for one night. now all things are fine. Big Grin

he is getting sick of the rice though, luckily they can start adding actual dog food back into his diet slowly starting tomorrow to try to pin point what he is allergic to.

im thinking its something in the water.
until they moved to the county, he never had this problem.

I'm with lydia here about pets being lactose intolerant. After weening, they no longer have the emzymes needed to digest dairy products. I’m surprised that the vet prescribed cottage cheese.

Let us know what they have pinpointed as the cause of his problems Smile

You can also give your pet a "bland" diet mixture of boiled chicken meat (bonless of course), rice and boiled eggs all chopped up together. If you boil the rice in the chicken water it gives it a better flavor.

this is a "staple" food when your pet has a upset tummy. I was told many a times to give it to my dogs before introducing it back on regular dog foods.

im thinking its something in the water.
its been weeks, and he is still showing signs of an alergic reaction when ever they try introducing dog food to his diet. (he is on pills while on the rice diet, then no pills for the dog food days.)
the only other thing it could be is something in the cat food.
we arent sure, but he might be sneaking the food.
its 3 shelves up, the highest the cat can jump, but when he stands on his back legs, he can reach the shelf. Roll Eyes

as for the lactose thing... cottage cheese seems to be different! both mom and i are lactose intolerant, and i found that i dont need a lactaid pill if eating cottage cheese, and mom only needs one. i dont know why, but there it is.

Whenever we run out of dog food and no one wants to go anywhere, my mom makes the dogs oatmeal and scrambled eggs...Very weird, but they love it!! Smile

I know this hasn't been answered for a while, but if you really think it's the water you could try giving him bottled water for a while and see if he still has trouble. Or, you could try a Britta filter Confused
