Worldwide, there are well over 300 different recognized breeds, but most of the major kennel clubs don't acknowledge nearly this many. The AKC (American Kennel Club), for instance, recognizes only just over 150 breeds, and the CKC (Canadian Kennel Club) recognizes 160. The UKC (United Kennel Club), which tends to be more flexible than some of the other clubs when it comes to acknowledging new breeds, currently recognizes just over 300 different breeds of dog.
