ok I have 2 dogs that are yard dogs I have a huge yard and they like to run. We are having a major problem with ticks and we dont know what to do. They are on frontline which isnt helping every saturday we bathe them with flea and tick shampoo, then they lay down in a baby pool filled with dip and we rub it on thier bodies, and spray flea and tick mist on them then they run the yard and we also spray the yard and put granules down to kill ticks. It seems these ticks are not killable. I might have to end up getting rid of my dogs because I dont know where the ticks are coming from and I dont want them to live with ticks on them. If anybody has any ideas please feel free. we need an answer before we have to get rid of them. Thanks

Talk to your veterinarian about which products are most effective on the ticks for your area (Frontline vs Advantage vs Revolution).
Please DO NOT use over the counter products or increase the dosage of what you are using now. Even doubling up on the various products (topical, dips, collars) increases the amount of the toxic substance your dog is absorbing.

you might want to consider vaccinating for Lymes Disease. Now - I am NOT an advocate for vaccinating for everything that comes along as some vaccinations can cause problems later in an animal's life. In this particular case - you're talking about ticks - and these deer ticks can cause Lymes Disease in dogs...I have a friend who's dog was diagnosed with Lymes - and she is not doing well.....
I also agree with the other comments about not double dosing anything or going over the counter. The long term ramifications of doing this aren't worth it.
This summer I used something called Heartz. (I think that's what it was, it may be misspelled) It's not a pill, it's a substance that you put a stripe of in the middle of the back. It worked pretty good. Also, I bug spray the doghouse, pen, and part of the yard. We keep cedar chips in the pen.
