I have a cocker spaniel puppy. She's only 8 weeks old. My problem is every time we take her out, she runs to the cherry tomato plants and grabs one. She just loves them. No matter where we put her in the yard she makes a bee line for them. We don't let her really eat them. She just bites them open and then we take them away.

What I need to know is if it is safe for her. Can they hurt her?

Thanks,
Twinhearts

According to a book I have called Reigning Cats and Dogs, raw tomatoes should never be given to carnivores (which dogs and cats both are) because they are difficult to digest. Provided that your dog is healthy and free from parasites, it is ok to feed them cooked, but not raw.

Tomatoes are considered to be a "nightshade" vegetable (along with eggplant, potatoes and peppers) - all of which should only be fed to dogs or cats after they have been cooked.

Thanks for the answers. I guess we will have to put up chicken wire or something around them. I don't want her getting sick!!

Ok... apples cannot be dangerous... my vet recommended apples and stuff like that as table food that would clean Lady's teeth.

I thought people gave their dog's raw eggs for coat health??
