I've been reading on this forum about "kong" toys for dogs, how they love them, etc. Today I went and got one, $6.47. My dog won't have anything to do with it. What's the big attraction in a piece of rubber? Is there some secret? What did I do wrong? Sob! Catty (who can't speak dog)

I bought one about a month or so ago and after it sat on the floor for a week I put 2 and 2 together... Coco didn't like her new toy. Not even the peanut butter, but I cleaned that out right away.
The design of the kong toy was meant to keep most dogs preoccupied by attempting to retrieve a favorite treat from the center of the toy. Many dogs like peanut butter and is often the preferred stuffing. The neat thing about using peanut butter is that it can be frozen. In the frozen state it takes a pet longer to retrieve it from the kong.
Not all pets like peanut butter as a favorite treat. You can probably encourage your pet to take an interest in the kong by putting something else inside of it that your pet thinks is of real value.
Kong toys stuffed with peanut butter or another favorite treat work wonders at distracting dogs that have a tendency to chew on furniture or other household items.

Weird. My doggie loves his kong. But I hate it when that happens. I'll be so excited to give puppy a brand new toy and then he'll turn up his nose. Lately I've been taking him to Petsmart with me and letting him test-drive anything I think he might like before I buy -- that stuff's expensive!
