Are dog owners' dogs covered under the house policy, just in case their dog bite someone?
The reason I asked is because I was reading in the paper that some owners of pit bulls and rottweilers were being denied insurance because these breeds were more likely to bite and cause liability claims.
Does this mean house insurance, or do the dogs have personal policies, and if it's house insurance, are they covered if they bite someone away from home?

I do not know about where you live but in Mississippi, they are. Farm Bureau insurance paid my son 10,000 dollars when a german sheppard attacked him in 1999. It was through the home owners policy.

Sounds like a good case for checking the 'small print' on your policy. you may well find that, even if a householders' policy is worded to cover the householder for the dog's actions the terms of cover are very restrictive as to amount payable and circumstances when and where the insurer is at risk.
You are almost sure to find that the particular insurance policy you can take out to cover you for the dog's early death,illness, veterinary expenses etc will have a 'public liability' clause, though, as part of the package. Certainly in Europe this part of the cover is automatic and for a very substantial sum too.
