I heard that dog's mouths were cleaner than humans? So is it true and what makes it cleaner?

This is only an urban legend. It cannot possibly be true. "A dog's mouth contains a lot of bacteria," says Dr. Gary Clemons. "Remember, a dog's tongue is not only his wash cloth but also his toilet paper."

Check out what some experts say about this.

And that's exactly why I want to puke everytime I see people letting dogs lick their faces.... :-*
That tongue has been around their toilet parts on a regular basis... Why do you think it's called dog-breath?

then why are HUMAN bites more serious than a dog bite?

Human mouths contain more bacteria than dogs. Dogs clean their teethe by chewing on rocks, wood, bones etc. MOST humans don't even brush twice a day.

Shawn - If you read (or reread if you already have) MkStfnz's link, it says:

Recent study of human bites has shown that the early literature depicting all human bites as having an extraordinarily high infection and complication rate was biased by its emphasis on human bites of the hand that presented late with infection already present.

In other words, the data was skewed by looking at one type of bites for humans and others for other animals, and human bites aren't actually more serious than dog bites.

I'm with Adi, it makes me want to puke, too, especially when it's a child's face, or even a baby's being licked. Whether a human bite is more dangerous is beside the point - you don't let people come along and lick your face, why would you let your dog? People who would throw a hissy fit and sue if your dog bit their kid will let the same dog lick it on the mouth wihtout saying a word.

Be kind to your kid. Keep humans and animals out of his/er face.
