Let's just say, Government isn't my favorite subject. Politics just aren't really my thing and now I'm having to do an assignment where i have to run as an independent canidate for State Representative in Texas. The exercise all-in-all is pretty easy, but I have to come up with a good slogan that "will be catchy, encompass you theme, and be short enough to be used in 30 sec. commercials, and on a yard sign". Any ideas? No theme inparticular. All I can ever seem to make up are cheesy slogans. HELP! Smile

Well, I am good at slick phrases and such, but what are your political views as an independent?

I mean, are you conservative, are you for conservation, all kinds of things.....

What are the issues for which you stand? Do you support the oil business?

"Support Our Children today so they can support us tomorrow"

"Legalize Drugs.. prohibition didn't work, but legalized drinking did."

"Open their eyes to the world.. bring the internet to our schools"

"A little competition does us good... support school vouchers"

Running a political campaign is a difficult business at the best of times. It really amounts to a good grasp of the issues at a local level. Thats what we call grass roots in the U/K. You need to be aware that the democratic process and the election of federal legislators whilst important for the formation of majorities which lead to government formation is not that important to the electorate at the local level. Find out what the burning issues are locally. It could be education budgeting, hospitals, the crime rate, car and personal taxes. You need to be able to appeal to both the domestic elector and the economic community. In the case of Texas I think I am right in saying that a big area is the policy of oil production. What is the impact of oil production on the environment? Is that of local and national concern? I understand that the Bush Administration has made major changes to legislation that protected the environment, ref: global warming and green house gas production.
As for a slogan go for the open government one, for example that you will inform and make the political process as transparent to the man in the street as possible.
"Vote for open governent, Truth, honesty and Justice for the Electorate"
