I didn't vote - - my choices weren't there..looks like (with the exception of lavendar) - you went with all spring flowering perennials.

My favorite for nostalgia and scent is definitely lilacs...brings back memories of picking them for my Mom and my Nana as a child - still LOVE that scent.

My favorite flowers overall are definitely wildflowers - a mix of all the pinks/purples/whites/yellow's and almost green tones (not too jazzed about orange flowers though)...

I agree with Lydia, I love lilacs. I have the bushes all over.
My second favorite is sweet peas. They smell great!

I picked "tulips" from your poll - tough choice though - I love them all! Smile

My favorite flower is the gardenia! I love the smell! Big Grin
And they are special to me: The first sniff of one every year takes me back to a time when I was 3 or 4 and was smelling a gardenia bush in front of our house - a very pleasant memory! Smile

I also love wisteria and mimosas. One year our neighbors had a mimosa tree with wisteria entwined in it. At one point, they were both in bloom together! What a lovely scent on a Summer night! Ahh... Smile

Chipmunk:

Well I like them all.

I would be hard pressed to pick just one, I have all of these in my yard/garden.

Along with the Tulips, Irises and Daffodils, I have paper whites and a wide variety of of their bulbs which put out their flowers in the spring. I also have naked ladies which produce a good deal of green in spring, and then put up a solitary pink lilly like flower, after the leaves have died in summer.

Lavender is in my herb garden, along the corner next to the walkway, when one walks by, they may brush against it and release its strong smell. Other strong herbs I have are oregano, sage and mint.

I have had some small success in having the mint grow between stepping stones, when it is stepped on, it releases is strong smell.

Here in california we have a wild violet, it produces a purple, white and yellow flower, has broad leaves, which are not hairy. Three out of five yards have a carpet of these in the spring-time. I have had great success in transplanting these wild pretties to garden beds and along walk ways. I was thinking of trying to pot some of them and bring them in the house this year.

I also have Deranged-mums (geraniums) of many colors, I have found them to be the easiest propagate, and they tend to flower nearly all year long. Their smell is 'odd' to me. However, they are very hardy, colorful, doing well in shade and sun. I have decided to start propagating them in several areas of our 2 acres - I would hope that they will take over - that is the intent.

I have Calla Lillies, all started from one small bulb years ago. Two years ago I broke up the clump, getting Lilies for three areas, I find that this year I will have to divide them again, I expect to triple my coverage. These have broad ever green leaves, and produce pure white flowers. They are tall growers and do well in the shade where I live.

We also have Cannas, both red and yellow varieties. These are tall growers, producing a lot of flowers and they love the hot sunny areas. They are a tuber as well (like Irises) and through the years I have managed to spread them out all over the property, I have also given many away.

And the List grows: Lilacs, Roses, Crepe Myrtle, "Moon Lillies" (These are considered a weed, they smell like peanut butter, and have a grey green stem and leaf, but produce a huge, delicate white trumpet flower) California Poppies, Nile lillies, Red Oleander, White Oleander and much, much more.

Cheers

David

I like blue and purple flowers myself. I especially like the colour of lavender and the smell of sweetpeas. Sweetpeas look really nice too. Lilacs are really nice aswell.
I will plant irises and bleeding hearts to the side of our house this spring. Smile

Actually, I've never met a flower I didn't like Big Grin

I voted for Daffodil because it's my birth flower and I never see them anymore since moving to California from Maryland.

I also LOVE iris. Purple and yellow are my favorite combination ... I wish I could have iris and daffodils in one vase!

I also love the scent of lilac ... gardenia too!

Smile Oceangurl..you would love my garden! I have the most beautiful deep purple Iris I've ever seen, right there amongst yellow ones!

I took some pictures last year because it was just so breathtaking, but lost the roll of film! Frown

I'm going to try again this year...they are about 8" high so far, so should be blooming soon! Smile

I would love your garden Giz! I wish I could have a garden, but I have a concrete patio. I could plant flowers in planters, but it's not the same as having a beautiful garden growing outside your home.

Good thing you're all the way in Wisconsin, Giz, cause I'd be tempted to raid your garden! Wink
