Most vegetables and fruits we consume are available fresh or canned, frozen, etc.

I have found that some things taste completely different depending on how they are prepared, or even cooked vs. raw.

For example - I absolutely LOVE fresh asparagus either steamed or grilled, but gagged when I tried the canned stuff. It didn't even remotely resemble asparagus!

What have you found to be glaring differences in YOUR favorite foods?

I LOVE strawberries, fresh, and even frozen. But canned strawberries are indescribably bad. They taste like something that you just know should never be in a human mouth.

ALL the veggie I eat must be fresh or frozen.

The only exception to this is can cream corn. Love it cold out of the can.

Fresh wilted spinach salad. Oh boy, I'm in heaven.

Sorry Giz, asparagus any way shape or form, if I may quote Tree, "insert barf smilie here"

Any resemblance between Spam and meat is purely coincidental.

I think low fat stuff is really awful. I don't like light cream cheese, light salad dressings and light yogurt. I would rather just eat less. I suppose because it grosses me out when I taste that artificial flavor.

The other thing is cottage cheese. I always look at it and think "That looks delicious" and then taste it and if it's anything but the real stuff/large curd then I want to spit it out.

I love all cheese but that low fat stuff really grosses me out. It has a metallic taste or something.

I also don't eat canned foods. Although occasionally I like a good can of canned peas because I like that real bitter taste... not kidding. Canned lima beans are so different than fresh but I actually like the taste. Must be in my genes or something.

I agree that most canned vegetables and fruit are nearly inedible to me. I like canned corn but that is the limit.

I prefer fresh anything.. frozen is acceptible. Smile

I also dislike low fat cheese, yogurt, etc.

I do like skim milk.

Any resemblance between raw milk and 'milk' sold in bottles or cartons is coincidental. That's because the white fluid sold as milk has been pasteurised or treated in some way to make it 'safe'. Nowadays it has often been homogenised, so there's no obvious cream, and much of the fat removed to make other milk products. It has no resemblance in taste to the stuff that comes straight from the cow, even when drunk chilled (and not at cow heat Big Grin)

Because of regulations concerning the sale of milk it is not normally possible to get untreated, raw, milk in Britain (nor, presumably, in the US either). Her Majesty the Queen does because she owns her own herd of Jersey cows and has the milk sent from her farm in Norfolk .Owning your own herd is about the only way to get it.
