A little history behind this so you all can know what a great cook I am. When I first tried to make it I spent an afternoon in Kroger looking for a 19" pie shell. After making a fool of myself I realized the recipe called for 1 nine inch pie shell. Thus, from that moment on, this pie has been referred to as the "19 inch pie"

I dont have my recipe with me at the moment but found this site and the recipe looks the same!

The best I ever tasted is pastry chef Dana Farcass', Menlo Park, San Fran, LA.

She makes the lightest semi-puff pastry {sweet butter,no turns)in the processor; finishes in a mixer. About two big pans full of Fuji apples chunks sauteéd with sweet butter, sugars and spices until the juice reduces. The apples are removed undercooked. Latticed top painted with milk, then stren with sugar

The reduced juice from the apples becomes a warm sauce for this "better-than -mom's-if-she-were-a-pastry chef".

I make it once a year now for a friend who thinks I buy it from Dana.

Also, scratch chocolate cream pie with toasted hazlenut cookie crust, shlag

It's a toss-up:

Kentucky Bourbon Praline Pumpkin Pie with Cormeal Crust (this one is incredible)

OR

Apple-Scotch (no, not that kind of scotch) Pie (my own recipe)

donrent: as soon as I find 'em, I'll post 'em in the recipe book.

I never met a pie I didn't like, though I'm not overly wild about pecan pie. My favorite of all has to be cherry pie.

Geeze... Reminds me of a local gal some years ago who moved from a small Indiana town to San Dieago because she was always hearing about this 19" Admiral....
Came back home when she found out everyone was talking about a TV set... Wink
