I have downloaded a lot of music and video from the internet this past two years.

Such as http://www.disclosureproject.org/npcwebcast.htm which is a video news meeting about UFOs.

Clips from funny sites like this one: http://www.video-clips.co.uk/

So when my Defrag Popped up a Warning That Hal (what we call the thing in the corner) was down to 5% available space, I put all of these video, and all of my zipped files and program installation files on to CD-R.

Carefully I placed video clips on their own Cd's desiring to pop the cd/dvd into our dvd-player to watch and show folk the things I have collected.

Imagine my astonishment and disappointment when not a single one of these plays on my DVD. I get a file menu with my individual folders on each cd, but nothing else.

A closer look at the files reveal that they are Mpeg, Avi and Media files. I suspect that this is somehow different than say a dvd that one buys or rents with a movie on it.

Is there any way to convert computer video to make a playable DVD? I checked the Net for Mpeg to DVD and I came back with a lot of hits, most are discussion boards, there was a couple of programs which were "Trial-ware" or "shareware" or "you-can-look-at-it-but-it-is-useless-ware" My favorite is FREE download but the fine print tells you you need a year's subscription for $39.95.

Is there a free tool to do what I want that doesn't come with a string attached?

What about Windows Media Player? It can make Cd's, is there a plug-in tool that will make playable dvds?

Or is this yet one more promise of technology that is a cash cow for some one other than me?

What CD burning programs do you have at your disposal? Nero 6 is NOT a freebie unless you find it in warez which I'm not allowed to post a link to here.

I have MEdia Player 10 which I use to make music CDs.

When I put a cd in my E drive (the one that burns CDs) I get a windows pop up which allows me to make:

A writable folder

A cd with Easy CD Creator, Roxio - which has messed up every time I made a cd, chopping up my music and cutting off the ends.

Select Media to copy to a CD with Windows Media Player. That gives me a window which says "No Device Detected"

Take no action

DvsdGStwrt:

If you have made copies of your music on CD-R's you may have made them on the wrong media. You will probably hAVE to copy this stuff to a DVD Diskette to get it to play on a DVD player.

Here is an URL tutorial on DVD's. Maybe this will help:

Wrong Media?

Sorry your Link took me to the "Infernal Page of Error" "THE PAGE CANNOT BE FOUND" Wink

I thought that DVD and CD were the same thing, optically etched "mini-lps) which is etched in binary digital( 1's and 0's) instead of analog wave forms. I thought that the Type of digitial information determined what the cd contained. MPEG, MP3, Wave, etc

I can place my back-up CD-rs in my DVD Player and the menu will pop-up with the names of the folders.

I can place my CD Burns (about 20 songs on a cd-r) into my DVD and get music. I have yet to attempt to divide up my 2.3 GB (yes giga) of music to fit on 700 MB disks in mpeg format. However it is my understanding that this can be done. - That will be a new thread. I have options and am uncertain which option to pick when it comes to filing my back up music. I know it will require 4 CDs. I also know I better decide soon and get the job done, each day I run the risk of losing over 500 songs forever by not having a back up - one small Windows fart and its all over with.

Ok I am willing to scratch this idea if I can get this idea:
http://answerpool.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=669605981&f=274601891&m=629105584
to work.

Having backups are gret, if I can combine both my HDTV and my computer one way or the other, that is even better. If I can make dvd-playable cds out of some of my files in to cd-r then I will, if I have to go with Option 2 fine, then I will make cd-r formated with what ever the computer formats.
