I have downloaded a lot of music and video from the internet this past two years.
Such as
http://www.disclosureproject.org/npcwebcast.htm which is a video news meeting about UFOs.
Clips from funny sites like this one:
http://www.video-clips.co.uk/So when my Defrag Popped up a Warning That Hal (what we call the thing in the corner) was down to 5% available space, I put all of these video, and all of my zipped files and program installation files on to CD-R.
Carefully I placed video clips on their own Cd's desiring to pop the cd/dvd into our dvd-player to watch and show folk the things I have collected.
Imagine my astonishment and disappointment when not a single one of these plays on my DVD. I get a file menu with my individual folders on each cd, but nothing else.
A closer look at the files reveal that they are Mpeg, Avi and Media files. I suspect that this is somehow different than say a dvd that one buys or rents with a movie on it.
Is there any way to convert computer video to make a playable DVD? I checked the Net for Mpeg to DVD and I came back with a lot of hits, most are discussion boards, there was a couple of programs which were "Trial-ware" or "shareware" or "you-can-look-at-it-but-it-is-useless-ware" My favorite is FREE download but the fine print tells you you need a year's subscription for $39.95.
Is there a free tool to do what I want that doesn't come with a string attached?
What about Windows Media Player? It can make Cd's, is there a plug-in tool that will make playable dvds?
Or is this yet one more promise of technology that is a cash cow for some one other than me?
