Can anyone tell me how to delete the different options that are in excel when I go to page set-up and I want to write in header some info. There are thing in there that I would like to get rid of like page 1, requested by, date and time sheet1 confidential ect.
When these words are highlighted and I click on delete nothing happens. Is there a way to remove all of this? Thank you

What you are seeing in the page setup view sounds like what was set as a header. To view that and to change it, go to your menu, click on "View", scroll down and select "header and footer". Once there you can make changes to the previously set header, delete it, or create your own.

Has the file been write protected?

Right click the excel file in Windows explorer and check to see if read only is checked. If it is uncheck it and now open the excel file and remove the header/footer

Do what Georgia said and once there, click the 'custom header' and/or 'custom footer' button(s). Delete everything in the three windows that appear.

Lucky, did you get it to work?
I didn't even think that it might be a read-only file - good catch Puta Smile

Kendor, thanks for the more detailed steps. I was going from memory I couldn't remember all the details.

Thanks Puta it worked. Sorry it took so long to answer back was gone for a few days to Ogunquit Maine.

Now I am having another problem with Excel, my DH likes to follow Formula 1 races, I made a spreadsheet for him in Excel and formatted certain cells for numbers when he puts in 4-1 and hits the enter key it says 01April if he then hits the enter key again it says 38443.

I cleared all formatted cells started all over again and the same thing happens, what in the world am I doing wrong.

Thanks again.

Highlight the cells he'll be working in, click 'Format', 'Cells', and select 'Text' from the list and click 'Ok'. Everything typed in these cells will be 'Left Justified', meaning the characters will begin at the left edge of the cell, but you can change that using the alignment tab on the same format menu.

Does this happen even if you are using the correct date format for that cell?

Display numbers as dates:
Select the cells you want to format.
On the Format menu, click Cells, and then click the Number tab.
In the Category list, click Date, and then click the format you want to use.

The "38443" is the way Excel translates the date into "computer language". If the cell is formatted either as a date or as a custom format, it should show what you want it to.
