If I can type in

a:\>duseldr.com duse.exe

at the A: prompt and it works then why can't I just type in
device=duseldr.com duse.exe

to my config.sys without making my system hang
.

Usuing a 98SE boot disk.

Probably belongs in Autoexec.bat, not Config.sys.

I just need to see my USB CD Drive in DOS and DUSE is the olny program I found that works. I just thought if I automate it instead of typing it in everytime. And I see no place for it in the Autoexec anything. THIS link is where I got the idea. Analyse that and see if it helps.

Actually I just realized if I use only

device=duse.exe

in the config.sys file it works
.

But what I thought worked doesn't. It says loading the CD drive but then it says drive D not installed. But the RAM drive goes to E: so somethibg is taking up D:. So why the not install sign?

I'll assume you're using the boot floppy created via Add/Remove Programs "Startup Disk" function.

Insert the line Device=Duse.exe CDD=mscd001 in the [CD] section, below device=himem.sys /testmem:off.

Even with Correct Spelling it says USB support enabled for DOS but no D drive installed or any cd drives detected. But in windows 98 SE it detects the USB CD-RW drive.

I like this new one I discovered HERE called usbdrive.zip. I like the way it modifies the menu so U can choose to start with or without USB support. But I still need usbcd.sys and can't find it. Have U seen that anywhere?

See Using USB Drives In DOS. My impression is that Cypress's DUSE may require another driver to work.

I figured it out. I just ued the usbdrive one I just mentioned. I couldn't find usbcd.sys. But usbcd1.sys and usbcd2.sys are there in the package.The usbcd1.sys there worked by modifying the config.sys file they give with a usbcd1.sys insteead of the usbcd.sys already there in two places. Just copy that config.sys file and their autoexec.bat to a 98 boot floppy. And copy the rest of the files in that package they give to the same 98 boot floppy. And walla.
