I have aol IM that I use on a regular basis. I don't like aol, but most of my buddies use it for IM. My prob is that i just upgraded to the new version and I have this netscape bundle that was paired with the upgrade. How can I get rid of this annoying pop-up that comes up every time i re-start? Thanks in advance

Hi Rastus
Some bad news for you.
The AIM program cannot be changed over to Internet Explorer. The Netscape browser is built in. Sorry frown
I do have a suggestion ,this involves no web-browser download .
Have a look at Trillian - http://www.trillian.cc/
A chat client for Windows that allows you to simultaneously connect to AIM, ICQ, IRC, MSN and Yahoo! Messenger. (File size about 2300k (2.25 mbs) ?5 minute download, works on "All" Windows versions except 3.1 (And has NO "pop-ups" or spyware) cool
There are others like this:

Howdy:

Dump the Netscape and AIM programs.

Then, go to the following url and download the AIM program for Windows..

http://www.aol.com/aim/home.html

Once on the homepage (link I gave), click on the "Get AIM" on the left side..

Not sure what Bedstor was referring to when he/she said "Aim can't be changed over" !!

I use trillian all the time! It is my best friend! AIM, MSN, YAHOO, ICQ, and IRC all from 1 program with multiple accounts! I don't need 5 programs open anymore! Of course a Pro paid version is always available in addition to the free one!

Or use AIM! U might hate AOL but U can use other things to communicate with AOL users so U don't need AOL! Or the BYOA plan $15 a month! Log-in to somebody else first and then AOL! So same AOL but If U have cable then much faster and same AOL for only $15 extra instead of $24!

To Murray
The topic setter was referring to an attachment which loads Netscape as well as the AIM program
Why? I dunno? roll eyes If it was the "Full" Aol package Internet Explorer is loaded as Default(No Netscape elements)
Why that happens is a Mystery confused
Did a bit of follow up browsing but got no clues how to change this program defaults over to I.E.
Btw I'm a He smile

The question was about AO HELL and Netscape! But AO HELL as he put it is only needed to keep in touch with others he can't normally with out AOL! I don't think its too bad but if there are other ways then why not use those and avoid the AO HELL all together! I mean then U can skip all the Netscape headache! I mean instead of worrying about what's up with Netscape just ditch AO HELL and use AIM or Trillian which requires no Netscape! Or at least Trillain doesn't and it works great on my machines for years now! They're always on top of things! Patches, bug fixes, ect!

Thanks guys/gals for the responses. I'm on a cable modem and just use AIM for connecting to my illiterate comperter-ese friends. AOL basically told me that if I didn't upgrade that i would lose all my contacts and buddie lists, and that eventually AIM would stop functioning.I did the upgrade to avoid the probs but that's when the pop-ups started. No worries though. I just un-installed and went back to AIM 95 and it works great. Yell back if anything new develops.

If you are complaining about the AIM Today window then you can easily turn it off in the preferences. Under Sign In/Off uncheck "Show AIM Today window at sign on". You have now banished the popup!

I hope this is helpful.
