My System Configuration/startup file contains so many programs running at startup it's no wonder my PC runs slow. I have no idea what most of them are.

How can I add an app to the startup file?

If you like, you can contact me to connect with your system and go over the startups.

You can also Goggle each entry (.exe file by name) in the startup list (instructions later) and see if it is something you want to run at each system startup.

Use msconfig to see startup list.

Click Start
Click Run
type in:
msconfig
Click OK

Click the Startup Tab
See the list of items set to run a boot. You can uncheck items you wish not to run automatically. Any unchecked item can be started from the Start/Programs menu.

Leave all AntiVirus, Firewall programs running since they are necessary to protect your system.

OK your selections and restart the computer when prompted.

At startup, you can check the box not to inform you that your have used the Configuration Utility and OK the dialog box.

Note: this will not stop all items, but it is a good start.
