I'm having continuing problems with downloading pages - it sometimes takes four minutes to access a site. The message is, "Waiting for..." followed by the path. I don't know whether it is my ISP or my system or what might be causing it. I've always had problems with MSN. For example, if I type in "google.com" I get this: "http://g.msn.com/1cl91enus/7?q=www.google.com%2F." I have no idea what all this means.

Can anyone help?

I think its an Internet Explorer fault

If the Homepage on IE is displaying Say you have set it to Google or MSN and It comes up fast Or not at all? then an edit of the Home page links is needed (I myself have got 4 somehow Roll Eyes) but only need Google

The other way is to do a clearance of the Web Files cache History files and the Temp files
Plus Go into the Control Panel to the "Add Remove" Programs Folder and scroll down the List until You see Windows Internet Explorer 7(or what ever you have)click on it
Next hit the remove button ...

Message flashes up offering Delete or Repair

choosing repair then OK Starts the overwrite and don't forget the Temp file delet at least
Now go online and see if the Pafes are sowin faster..Retun the Internet explorer if no Joy
and delete the web file cache and the History files whichwill mean a slower page load for a short while as the Pages are kept on File and are Used as a template to update from the Web

What you have is a Page lurking which is a misload and its being "seen" as a Priority and has blocked the queue

No use trying to pick it out of the files and deleting it will take you ages and a big slice of luck even if you are experienced. Red Face
So The fastest way is a total delete OK?

PS Running a Defrag may speed up things, after doing this job

Thank you, Bedstor. In fact, I finally found a way to talk to an outsourced person at my ISP who knew what he was talking about. He asked how many phones I have (two) and told me that each phone must have a filter. Can't find my filter, so I just unplugged the other phone. Would you believe, things are much better now!

I really do appreciate the help I get here, but it is really difficult for someone to tell you what's wrong with your computer - so many things can cause a slow page load.

So, Bedstor dear, you can add this to your repotoire (sp?) of things to try. Wink

Also, bedstor, I went to add/remove programs and found IE. Clicked on remove, but didn't get any option to repair it, just remove.

And Thank you For telling us Smile

I have done that but all I ever get is an error message
Though With a Router as opposed to a Modem it does sometimes allow a webpage to show
Is that what you have? Has an Aerial and 4 or more Sockets besides the telephone socket Has a Thick Usually Yellow colored Cable and Plug that runs to your Computer
Does that sound right?
As to line filters You need a filter for each of your phones and 1 for your modem If you Install one where it comes into the House and 1 for everything you get a dead line so Line must be a straight run and a splitter with a filter fitted take the Land line next length Is the same(2nd phone?) Last length terminates in a filter to the Computer ...And the Beauty of the Method is you can plug the computer in on any on the Branches Wink
