In my opinion, you usually do not need to clean the registry unless you have done a great deal of adding of new programs, then uninstalling them. By a great deal, I mean in the area of a 100 install/uninstall actions.
Firs, close all Windows. then follow these steps:
This assumes that the computer is working correctly, no error messages, etc.
I know that many people will argue that they system will slow down if the registry is not cleaned out, but the amount of "slow down" is hardly noticeable to most users. If there are errors that involve the registry, they can be manually corrected.
If you click the "Start" button, then the "Run" command and type in:
%temp%
Then click OK, it will find the temporary files in your system that can safely be removed. Just select one of the files, then click the Edit menu and the "Select All" command.

Right-click on the selected files and press and hold the "Shift" key on the keyboard while pressing the Delete button. OK the delete files dialog box and allow the files to be deleted.
It is quite likely that you will encounter a dialog box that says something like, "javalog.log cannot be deleted". Just select the next file in sequence and repeat the Select All / Shift Key / Delete key action. This action may have to be repeated several times.
All this means is that the file in question is in use at this time and cannot be deleted.
Once this is done, go to the Start button / Control Panel / Internet Options (this assumes the Control Panel is set to classic mode). Open the Internet Options and locate the Delete button. Click it and remove the files that you wish:
