I recently got a new computer at work and it was loaded with Microsoft Windows 2000. I'm fine with that except there is a feature that bugs me to death and I want to turn it off. When I try to open an Outlook attachment Quick View is launched and opens the attachment. It's suppose to be some neat feature that can show you the attachment even if you don't have the application it was created in. But I get huge spreadsheets and I want to be able to open them right up and not go through the extra steps of seeing them in Quick View and then opening them in Excel to edit.

So, my question is...is there a way to turn off this application. NOT uninstall it - just turn it off?

Georgia:

I've got Outlook 2002 at home and couldn't find anything like that. Someone will probably get to you before tomorrow...if not, I'll email you from work (can't get to AP at work) where I use Outlook 2000.

Double Click on (My Computer)and under the (Tools) menu select (Folder Options). Click on the (File Types) tab and select (The kinda files U get by E-Mail). Say (Change) and selct or (Browse) for what U want to open the file type instead of (Quick View). Say OK and Close. That's it.

Thanks invj...but that doesn't work. For example, an Excel file on my computer opens in Excel. And that is how it is set in the folder options. BUT, when someone sends me an excel file through Outlook and I double click on it to open and view it....it still opens in the Quick View mode. And in this mode you cannot see the entire page nor do you have any excel functions. I have to "open it for editing". But I appreciate your input.

Never-mind folks! It's not like me to have to admit defeat when it comes to computers...so I kept on tinkering with it...certainly NOT a user friendly application...but I finally got it turned off! If anyone else has this problem feel free to ask me how to do it! Big Grin
It's tricky and it's sort of a hidden option.
