My Winamp keeps skipping. Ive read other posts and messed with the buffering and it seems to make the Skips slower (sounds more like stuttering than just noise). It skips multiple times per song. Ive been listening to a playlist of almost 2,000 songs Ive put onto my computer and im online but not actively browsing. thats all. If anyone has anyinsights My system is :
an HP computer with
Intel Pentium III
589MHz
128MB RAM.

I think you need to increase the amount of "Buffering" so that data is downloaded in advance of playing the sound. What kind of Internet Connection are you using? If you're on a dial-up, you probably need a lot of buffering because of the slow connection.

Also, if you're using a file sharing (peer-to-peer) program, you may have to close that to concentrate your system resources on the WinAmp.

I hope something here will help!

I can't find it, maybe they removed it. Try TrayPlay instead. Double click on the grey triangle TrayPlay.exe. Under the close button [X] click Associate. Or click on the arrow to the left of that and search for your songs. Its only 40k and plays everything. And the grey traingle on your taskbar next to the clock when U open it is the program quitely runnig in the background.

Maybe you could try changing Winamp's audio output settings...

Open Winamp
Press Ctrl+P
Click "Output" (underneath Plug-ins)
- If "Directsound output" is selected, then select "Waveout output".
- If "Waveout output" is selected, then select "Directsound".
Click close, and try to play your music.

Another idea would be to defrag. I know it sounds unrelated, but it might help Winamp to access the files easier.
