Surely one of you Word experts can tell me how can you convert WordPerfect documents in Word?
I know it can be done. This is urgent because I have WordPerfect and my teacher has Word, and we are having problems converting back and forth. All I have to work with is WordPad which is very limited re conversions.

A quick answer would be appreciated.

Catty, what versions are you trying to convert from and to???

Hi Catty:
I don't know about WordPerfect but I found that you can save a document from WordPad and select "File/Save As" then select Word for windows 6.0 in the "Save as Type" box.

Make sure you remove the .rtf from the filename box.

This saves your document in .DOC format which opens in Word just fine.

You can also cut and paste the WordPerfect document and put it into either the Notepad or Wordpad...both of which can be found under the Start button>Programs>Accessories. Then you can select all, cut and paste into Word.
OR
You can open Word, then under File on the menu you select Open (control+c). When the box opens with the word documents in it at the bottom of it will be a pop up menu that reads "File of Types" On the arrow next to it change the selection from Word Documents to All Files. You should see the WordPerfect document listed. Double click on it and Word should convert it.

Let me know if either of these suggestions help.

Byter, I am not offered that option. In WordPad, when I go to File/Save As, the choices offered me are "Rich Text Format", "Text Document" "Text Document - MS-DOS" and "Unicode." For every choice but RTF, I get a message that says formatting will be lost, do I want to continue?

When I convert from WordPad to WordPerfect, WordPad changes the "corrections" my teacher inserted from whatever she typed in there to the font called "Wingdings", which is nonsense symbols.

Catty, Notepad or WordPad will only serve as a "clipboard" so to speak until you paste it into Microsoft Word. Once you do that all you have to do is select all and change your font to whatever you want. That should correct the wingding characters that appeared in the notepad.

Catty, I'd second Murray's advice. I have the same problem you describe at work. REcently, I downloaded 602Pro PC SUITE 2001 and have that it works very well for working with Word users.

Thank you, Georgia, and Diarmait, I am fixin' to open the program and see if it will work for us. Woops, can't open it, can't find it - it's not listed on my programs menu! How do I find it? I asked that it be saved.

Where did you download it to?? Just a suggestion, but it may be on your desktop..

One more suggestion: Make a directory on your c: drive and call it "Downloads".. then, save all downloads to that folder.. makes life so much easier !!
