Just wondering if there are any free programs on the net that are as good as Excell

The most popular free productivity suite these days is OpenOffice. It includes a very good word processor, spreadsheet, and presentation tool. Pretty much on-par with MS Office, but with a far more attractive price tag.

Google has a web-based (no download or installation!) set of productivity tools, called Google Docs. (Word Proc, Spreadsheet, Presentations) The tools are very simplistic, but for basic use they work very well. (Spreadsheets support basic formulae, formatting, etc) Documents are automatically saved online, making them accessible from anywhere with a net connection. (There is also the option to download them)

If you only need a spreadsheet app for a short period of time, Microsoft offers a 60 day free trial of MS Office. Be aware that its a rather massive download.
