I am having a problem getting things to line up in my template. Would someone who knows Word pretty well please email me and help? I would post an example here, but the formatting won't transfer (I know about pre but have never been able to get it to work).
Thanks loads.
Catty ************************************************** 06-10-04, 07:40 PM putasolutions Does the top of your page look something like this?
************************************************** 06-11-04, 12:10 AM cattywampus Yes, it does. I might add that this template came from my employer with pre-set tabs and all. It's just at a few spots on the document that this problem appears. I have put in tabs, taken out tabs on the ruler, moved the margins, etc. Nothing helps. Dear Put, can you figure this out for me?
Catty Mad ************************************************** 06-11-04, 12:13 AM cattywampus Dorian, can you tell me why we are no longer offered the option to edit our messages? The little edit icon has vanished!
Dear Put, I wanted to add to that last message, if you could tell me how to do a screen shot I can show you menus and whatnot. Should help.
Thank you.
Catty Razz ************************************************** 06-11-04, 03:09 AM putasolutions We'll try and sort the formatting first.
There are two ways of going about this
* Move your mouse over the downward pointing triangly thing, this is the first line indent. Left click and you should see a dotted line just at there is in the image above. Left click and drag this to the right until it is over the little upward pointing triangly thing (Hanging Indent)
* Move your mouse over the upward pointing triangly thing. Left click and you should see a dotted line.Left click and drag this to the left until it is under the little upward pointing triangly thing
To move them together, left click and drag on the rectangle underneath them ************************************************** 06-11-04, 10:12 AM cattywampus Hahahahah! Put, you are a trip! The upward pointing triangly thing, huh? I believe those are called arrows. I also believe you are talking about the ruler, though you didn't say so. I'll mess around with those triangly things and let you know what happens. Thanks bunches.
Catty Wink ************************************************** 06-11-04, 11:59 AM putasolutions I have the odd occasion of doing some teaching, and tech speak is not the strong point of the students in question. Switching on the computer can sometimes be a bit of a trial.
I end up trying to use the simplest terms which usually ends up being silly, but it's surprising how much they learn Wink ************************************************** 06-11-04, 12:15 PM cattywampus That is true, Put, but there may be some residual resentment for the implied put-down - "I have to patronize you because you're stupid." I teach also - writing - but try to talk to each student at their level. Maybe that's not possible in your situation, if you're not working one-to-one (the log, remember?)
Anyway, no hard feelings this side - I can't speak for anyone else but I really and truly appreciate your taking the time to help us, and for typing so much.
So when are you going to tell me how to take a screen shot?
Catty Wink ************************************************** 06-11-04, 02:19 PM Georgia85 Here ya go Catty:
To creat a screenshot: 1. Create the window that you want to capture and leave it up on your screen. 2. Press the key labeled Print Screen/SysRq (to the right of your keyboard you'll see 3 sets of keys. The lower set will prob be a group of 4 arrows. Above them will be a group os 6 keys. Then above them are 3 keys, one being Print Screen.)
3. When you press that key, nothing will appear to happen but actually you have just taken a "picture" of the image on your computer screen.
4. Now you have to open an application you can paste the image into. Most use Word.
PS...ok, for the past 2 years you have kept us on our toes in the Beginner's Issues. It's nice to know you have finally graduated out of the Beginner's Class and now are in the Software class! Wink Big Grin ************************************************** 06-11-04, 03:25 PM cattywampus LOL at Georgia, indeed I have graduated to software, but Put wants to put me back into kincomputergarden! Big Grin
Thank you, Georgia dear. I'll keep that by me so I don't have to ask again.
Love,
Catty Wink ************************************************** 06-11-04, 03:38 PM Georgia85 Enjoy those instructions. I gave you the basics. Someone else will have to show you how to have a screen image show up in a post. I have yet to figure that one out yet Wink ************************************************** 06-11-04, 04:20 PM cattywampus I know Put knows how to do it, because he took a screen shot and put it in his post on the thread (no put intended). He's busy, I guess, with all these people needing help. Anyone heard how Dwight's doing?
Catty ************************************************** 06-11-04, 04:23 PM Georgia85 I haven't read an update since the one that was posted about him being taken off the respirator. But Catty, take it easy on him when he get's back, ok? Wink ************************************************** 06-11-04, 04:52 PM cattywampus Now when have I ever been hard on poor old Dwight? Dwight is my mentor. He has helped me a lot. What is it you're wanting to say here Georgia?
Catty Confused ************************************************** 06-11-04, 09:15 PM Georgia85 I'm saying don't wear him out by bombarding him with computer questions Big Grin I know he is your mentor...and I don't want ya to break him, he's delicate right now. Wink
There was nothing negative meant by my statement. Smile ************************************************** 06-12-04, 04:29 AM putasolutions It wasn't intended to sound patronising, but if I had said, "move the first line indent to the right" which I did the very first time I took a lesson, the immediate response was "WHAT?"
Personally, I always paste into Irfanview, free. It allows you to save the image in jpg or gif formats, both are which produce a far smaller file size than bmp (bitmap) or doc (word) and the smaller the better
As for posting a picture, the first thing you need to do is sign up for some image hosting space. The best place to do this is irev.net, which is also free. This site allows "hotlinking" ie linking to an image even though that image is not on site.
Upload the image to the website, highlight the url of that image in the images files for.... and copy the url and then you're ready to post a picture.
In the Post reply for AP, click the image button (circled in the picture above) right click your mouse and click paste. This will insert the url of the image on the other site
You won't see the image until you press the POST NOW button ************************************************** 06-12-04, 09:14 AM cattywampus Thank you Put dear. I use villagesolutions which isn't free - maybe I'll try yours.
Keep 'em coming, darlin.'
Catty Razz ************************************************** 06-12-04, 09:54 AM cattywampus No offense taken, Georgia dear. You know I hold you in the deepest affection. Any questions I have about computers I'm sure Put will be able to handle. He is a most worthy addition to our group!
It is so good to know Dwight is recovering. I guess our prayers were answered, huh?
Catty Wink ************************************************** 06-13-04, 02:12 PM cattywampus Dear Put: I tried your suggestion about the thingys and it does work. So that's how you create a hanging indent! (I am a WordPerfect fan - it's so easy there). But they won't stay lined up! They stay for maybe 3-4 lines, then they go right back where they were. Must you do this anew for each paragraph, or is there a way to hold 'em until you say, "Let go!"?
Thank you.
Catty Confused ************************************************** 06-13-04, 02:34 PM putasolutions Highlight the whole page, by left clicking at the top of the page and dragging your mouse down, so that your background seems black
Now change the indents, this should apply the changes to the whole page ************************************************** 06-13-04, 03:07 PM cattywampus WHY WON'T THEY LINE UP? Thank you, Put, you are so very valuable here. I think that does it for this thread.
Catty Big Grin ************************************************** 06-13-04, 03:27 PM putasolutions I may not be on quite as often as much as I like. I am in the middle of setting up my own business, and so have all the business plans and the like to deal with for the financiers ************************************************** 06-13-04, 05:26 PM cattywampus I'm sure we all wish you luck in your new venture. If you can help other people like you have helped us here, you're sure to be a success!
Catty Big Grin ************************************************** 06-14-04, 12:38 PM putasolutions Thanks, catty I'm going to need all the luck I can get, Business plan is now up to page 20 Eek
