Just out of curiosity: One member of my tour group in Africa was the owner of the above software company - anyone know anything about this outfit, like what do they do? He brought his whole family, 8-9 people, so they must be doing pretty well!

Peoplesoft makes accounting and various business application software. Their stuff is generally considered to be a "high end" software solution, and their products are well respected.
It's a large and successful company. I'm sure it's annual revenues exceed a billion a year, and it's total stockholder equity probably approaches 2 billion. It's a publicly traded company on the Nasdaq, so no single person "owns" peoplesoft, but clearly the high ranking board members, officers, and major investors are VERY successful people.

I've been in the high-tech software sales arena for almost 15 years and have competed with Peoplesoft a number of times. They have a great product line and have always been a very high-end player in their market. They started off relatively small in the mid 80's and have made quite a name for themselves at all levels within many very large organizations.
Financially, they've also been able to weather the storm quite nicely in a down economy. I hear the owner is a very nice man and very down to earth - I'm curious if you found him to be this way.
Crescen7 is probably right, no one individual person owns peoplesoft, but I got the impression this one did. He was obviously very successfull, Lydia, and while I didn't get to know them except to say Hi to, they appeared to be a very nice family. They sure had a good time, I can tell you that.
