"NVIDIA display software"

"Intel network software"

Are two drivers which Microsoft says I have and is offering driver updates for.

For the NVIDIA display supported software the list contains things I haven't ever heard of. Geforce and Quadro there are some that are pro, others with Mx - I don't know what this really is for. Unlike other updates there is no description for what this update is addressing.

The Intel Network software I click on the Supported hardware and get a smaller window that gives that all to common Error Message: The page cannot be found.

My philosophies on life are rather simple:

1. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
2. If you don't know what it is LEAVE IT ALONE.
3. If it is strange and unusual and lands in your field, get the rest of the villagers with pitchforks and kill it.

Now if I had some idea what a NVIDIA display is or what a Intel network was, I would know if it wasn't working right - right?

Do I really need these driver updates? Does anyone have a clue as to what they do?

Do I need to leave these alone, or do I need to gather the villagers?

Thanx

Hi David
Have you got Belarc Advisor? NO? Here is the download link www.belarc.com/free_download.html (only take a few seconds)
Run the Scan and in the right hand column (about half way down)You'll see something like this
Display
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 [Display adapter]

that is my spec yours is.?
If it corresponds to a Microsoft update then its worthwhile doing it because it fixes minor issues for that card. Smile
Not listed then "Pass" on it Should be Ok Smile

I would have preferred getting the villagers together - Oh well, we wait for that next thing to fall from the sky ;-).

Ok this page has a lot of stuff, I located NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440. I assume that this is what the driver update is for? The Display I assume is the monitor?

Or is Geforce like DirectX?

Intel?
Hm Well I have a few USB host controllers
An Intel Ultra ATA storage Controller
Intel main circuit board
Intel Pentium 4

Under Network Drives it says none detected
So do I need that Intel Network Software Driver update?

Thanks

David

Hi David
That is correct
but Geforce is a brand name OK
The DirectX driver goes to a different location
If you are going to do the update see if there is a directX update listed also?
Go to this page instead of going via Microsoft
and you'll get the latest update for your card Cool (click on the "Live update" link) This is the makers site:
http://english.aopen.com.tw/products/vga/gf4mx440-v64.htm

this is a partial quote from someone asking for the same on Google answers reply

these are the 53.03 drivers from Nvidia. Shows up as version 5.3.0.3. - Nvidia Forceware Driver Downloads
(http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_53.03)

though the driver (for the card) may be out of date? The first link is still useful Wink

I never recommend installing Microsoft drivers over the manufacturer's drivers. In your case, I would definitely get the latest Detonator drivers from nVidia.

The Intel network drivers are negotiable, but if you can find the manufacturer's latest version that would be preferrable.
