Well I got it Tuesday, Got hooked up to the internet Wednesday - Thursday and Friday I downloaded all of those much needed programs, files etc.

Come Saturday I find that XP is more irritating to me (I hate Change - that might be the real issue Wink)

A few Questions:

1. How do I switch my icons from the double click to single click? - on Win98 I had the option to view my desktop like a web page - I have yet to find that option for XP.

2. I have a new Plasma Screen - 17 inches of it, but on the XP desktop the font is so small I have to sit up close to the screen to read my start menue - the font is even smaller in 'All Programs' - kind of defeating the purpose of have a 17 inch screen. Any Idea on how I can make the system fonts larger?

3. Used to be on my '98 that there was a tray next to the start button where I could single click on the Explorer button, the Yahoo Mail button, the Media Button and a couple of others. On XP I have to click on start and then try to find the right button - Is there any way to put a tray next to the start button to eliminate a step?

4. On Win 98 One could view documents and picture they had opened in their computer with the option to open up the My documents folder - all of this with out having to click, just hovering the pointer over the right button. Is there anyway to make XP work with a hover option? Trust me, the less clicking I have to do, the easier it is on my arthritis.

5. My computer flat refused to do the dishes last night - I thought this was the system of my dreams - What happened? Big Grin LOL

Thanks and Cheers

David

Perhaps your best bet is to run the "Windows Tour". It explains many of the new "features" in WinXP. It may be accessed from your Program Menu or from the Start button/Help menu.

The "Help" section of Windows XP is much improved over earlier Windows OS versions. I suggest you spend some time in there looking it over. It is much more "user friendly" than previous versions.

If you right-click on any unused area of your Desktop and select "Properties", the Display Properties window opens. You can reset your screen resolution in the "Settings" tab. Perhaps a setting of 800 X 600 would be a better size for you.

You can activate your "Quick Launch" bar by right clicking on the TaskBar and choosing "Toolbars". Then click "Quick Launch" to start it. You can drag what ever shortcuts (program, folder, or file) you like into the Quick Launch.

You can change your "double click" to "single click" in the Windows Explorer window. Press the Windows key and the "E" key together (at the same time). The Windows key is located on your keyboard between the "Ctrl" key and the "Alt" key". Then click the "Tools" menu, Folder Options command. In the General tab, tick the "Custom, based on settings you choose". Then click the "Settings" button. Choose the "single click" option and then click "OK".

Finally, I agree change is hard to accept sometimes. After using WinXP for a couple of months now, I find I like it much better than earlier versions. There are some aspects of it that I don't like, but there are more positives than negatives.

I hope this helps!

Dwight

Do U have XP HOME or PRO?

Also right click on the Start Button an select Properties! If U don't like change U can choose Classic Start Menu! Also Click the Taskbar Button! The Quick Launch area can also be shown from there! Other neat TaskBar options are also there!

U can also drag Shortcuts on top of the Start Button and let go! The will be placed in the StartMenu on the main page before going into All Programs or whatever! So those are also one click only!

And the stuff U use most often is also there! There is about 5 or so applications listed when U open the Start Menu in non classic mode! Those are the ones U use most often!

Icons can also be added in Classic Mode by dragging them on the Start Button and Letting GO!

But in classic mode the My Computer, ECT. icons are put back on the desktop instead of remaining on the Start Menu unless U drag them there!

Or in non classic mode U can right click on the item and say show on Desktop! But the trash never goes! Don't know why! So drag it to the start button so U have some way of accessing it! Then right ckick on the desktop! Say Arrange By! And Show Desktop Items! That will clear your desktop so u can see the whole picture!

These are some things I've learned just by playing around mostly! I hope some helps!
