hello people!

I've noticed recently that my autoplay feature on XP Pro is not working. I have to manually open every CD I put in. I cannot seem to find the "switch" to enable auto-start again. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks for reading this!

Click on Start/Help and Support. Type in
CD Autoplay
Click on "Change how your computer handles multimedia content".

You should see something similar to this:

To change how your computer handles multimedia content

Open My Computer.
Under Devices with Removable Storage, right-click the device you want, such as a digital camera or CD-ROM drive, and then click Properties.
On the AutoPlay tab, click the multimedia content type you want to change.
Under Actions, click the action you want Windows to perform when it detects the media type you selected.

Notes

To open My Computer, click Start, and then click My Computer.
Your removable storage device must be attached to your computer for it to appear in the My Computer folder.

I hope this helps!

Dwight,
Thanks for the instructions! I did everything as you wrote, but it still will not start automatically on this pc in XP Pro, but will in Win98se on the other partition. I checked in every category under the "Autoplay" section, and saved every choice, but it wont work. Any other ideas?

Just for verification, if the "Take no action" option is selected, the autoplay function is disabled. When you went to the CD Properties window, was the "Take no action" option checked? Check the settings for the content-type from the drop-down list.

Dwight,
I made sure the "Take no action" option was NOT checked for any of the types of CD's that I put in, so I'm not sure why it's not letting them autoplay. I'll go back to make sure here shortly, but I'm sure it's not.Maybe it decided not to work anymore, LOL. I can still get the CD's to play or start by double clicking the CDROM icon, so it's not totally disabled. I'll keep messing with it, maybe I'll accidently get it fixed, while seeing if you or anyone else has any other ideas. Thanks!
