We're now using "Outlook" at work. (I know, I know.. finally - used to use Outlook Express.) I'm trying to figure out how to leave an auto response, for instance saying that I'm away for a week and will return all email on such a date. Well, my sister told me to go to "tools" and then to "Out Of Office Assistant" --- Well, I don't have that option at work. When I got home, I checked my Outlook (which I've never set up) and it appears that "Out Of Office Assistant" is there, but it's greyed out, as in not available!

What the heck?????? Nothing like it at work and at home, it's greyed out... hmmmm..

Ahem! Georgia! Are you out there? Or can anyone else give me a clue???

Thanks!

I don't know if this is the problem (George will have to sort you out) but my husband and I use Outlook Express for accessing UoP, and we just had a problem with a feature not being there. We just got a new computer, and when we started OE there was no Spelling tab on the Tools-Options menu. It took a while, but I eventually found a notice on the MS help that some features are missing from Outlook and OE when certain other versions of the MS Word Suite are installed. I had to reinstall those features. You may find a similar solution if you search your version of Outlook on www.microsoft.com. I hope this helps Smile

Thank you Mommyx2! I've saved that site to my faves. Whether it helps this particular problem or not, it looks like it will be handy to keep around! Thank you and I will look Winkat it in more depth in awhile.

Figured it out yet Tree? If not, open Outlook and go to the Tools menu. Click Options. Click the Other tab and then click Advanced Options. Click Add-In Mamager. Select the option Exchange Extensions commands. That should do the trick! Big Grin
I hope.

Huh? What was the question? LOL

If you can't find the "Add-In Mamager" then look for the "Add-In Manager" That one should do the trick Wink

Smile K - There was no Add-In Mamager, so I followed your second post Razz and selected the Add-In Manager, but "Exchange Extensions commands" does not appear there. There are two other options there instead. Crap! I should have written them down, cuz I can't remember what they were... What an idiot I am.

I'll write them down tomorrow. Frown

In my Outlook, I have options showing up under the Add-In Manager:
LDVP
Delegate Access
Deleted Item Recovery
Exchange Extensions Commands
Exchange Extensions property pages
Server Scripting

If the Exchange Extensions commands check box does not appear in the Add-In Manager dialog box, do the following:

On the Help menu, click About Microsoft Office Outlook, and then click Disabled Items.
If Exchange Extensions commands appears, click it, and then click Enable.
Try to use the Out of Office Assistant command.

If you still cannot locate the Exchange Extensions commands, do the following:

On the Tools menu, click Options.
Click the Other tab, and then click Advanced Options.
Click Add-In Manager.
Click Install.
Click outex.ecf, and then click Open.
Try to use the Out of Office Assistant command.

Great snswer from Georgia85 above.

By the way...the reason you will see references to program commands that you don't have or have available (not grayed out) is because there are many different versions of these programs. For instance, MS Office has a version 95, Version 97, version 2000, Version XP (also called Version 2002) and so forth. Also, when Office is installed on the system there are program options that can be added or removed. If you choose, you can later add or remove these options by reinserting the Office installation CD and following the Add-Features steps.

Customizing Office

Anyway, the reason I point this out is that it is much easier to answer program questions when you add your program's version number. This information is found in "Help" / About ...(program name).

I can't take the credit Dwight - I copied the second set of instructions off the microsoft site Big Grin

But you are exactly right about the necessity of knowing a version. I can only give directions for Windows 2002 Outlook. Windows XP Outlook would probably be slightly different. I'm sure I could figure it out if I could mess around with it for awhile but since I have never used XP wouldn't know how to tell someone how to configure it.

Dwight, btw sure is good to see you back. You gave us quite a scare!

Hi again!

When I go to the "Add-in Manager" box, I get two ticked boxes:

SavCorp810 and NetFolders

I'm running WinXP Pro (at work) AND didn't even think of looking at the version of Outlook.

When I do what you instruct, Georgia, nothing seems to change. Confused

I'm sure that I'm over-looking something. Frown

I'm stumped. A co-worker of mine has Microsoft XP as an operating system so I asked her how to configure her Outlook to show out of office assistant. Her directions say that it is an Exchange add-in feature that may have been disabled and directions to enable it are the same as above. She also shows the same features in her Add-In Manager box as I show in my box.

From what I can tell, the "SavCorp810" is an add-in tied to a Symantec Antivirus application and "Netfolders" is an add-in from Outlook 2000 but was removed from future Outlooks because it was known to cause bugs.

Tree, could you check your version of Outlook for me. Just go under "Help" and scroll down to "About Microsoft Outlook" to see what the version is. I need a better understanding what I am working with. Thanks

Tree, since the Exchange Extensions Command did not appear in your list of add-ins did you try to install it?
If Exchange Extensions Commands is not on the list, click Install. From the list of add-ins that appears, double-click Emsuix.ecf.

Click OK three times to exit out of the Options pages.

Exit and log off.

Start Outlook and check to see if the Out of Office Assistant appears in the Tools menu.

If it did not install, the you need to make following registry modification for the Out of Office Assistant extension to be available in Outlook.

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
2. Locate the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/EXCHANGE/CLIENT/EXTENSIONS
3. On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:
Value Name: Exchange Extensions
Data Type: REG_SZ
Value: 4.0;emsuix32.dll;7;011111111111110;1111011100
4. Quit Registry Editor.

You know... you're so right! Our IT geek is out at my work often enough. I'll just wait and ask him.

It's too hard to trouble shoot when you can't see with your very own eyes - what's on my screen.

Thanks Georgia!
