I think somebody has peeked your computer with the "Remote Assistance" mode which should be turned off just a slim chance there is a trojan which has opened it and something tried accessing?
Or the Control Panel>Administration Tools folder Remote Assistance controls need inspecting Need assistance with these they are complex

This should be disabled if you are not using it,either through the Admin Tools folder or there are remote turn off switches on AOL and Ad-aware (add-on tool)
If you are still getting Popups with security Programs in place then Windows Messenger is Open

This Window must be shut OK?
I feel the next step would be to download
Hijackthis(tiny file) Run the scan and submit its results to a specialist forum where knowledgeable people can tell you what must be removed (tick boxes) and press the "fixed checked button"

Do a reset of your computer. Then see if the Notepad controls can be set to display as you'd like them to be?
