Can someone tell me how to get back the restore function for the note pad window. It will open minimized as a small bar above the taskbar and open full window maximized. I don't know what I did to cause this problem - too fast on mouse click, or something. I like to resize the window to a narrow strip when I copy stuff off a webpage. My current botany class has flashcards that don't copy, but I can type into the shortened note pad.
How can I get this back?
Thank you in advance for any help.
Windows XP home addition.

Open Notepad disregard the window
Go to the Start Menu (left side)and unless you have been here before and removed the Notepad Icon right click on it and select Properties
Ok click on the Shortcut tab (middle)
Now look down the boxes for the Run box which is next to the bottom change the indicator to "Normal Window" then press the Apply button in the bottom right corner of this window then the OK button to close
Your Notepad window should now appear correctly in future Wink

Just in case the solution provided by Bedstor doesn't solve the Notepad Window size problem, here is another idea. This page explains how to drag a Window to a preferred size and screen position. Windows XP handles the Notepad window differently than did previous Windows versions. Now, when you drag a window to your preferred size and screen position, then close the window, Windows XP "remembers" your preference and will open the window in the same size and position that it was in when closed.

So, you can try dragging the Notepad Window to your preferred size and screen position and then closing the Window. Reopen Notepad and it should open in your preferred size and position.

I hope this helps!

Hi Dwight and Bedstore, thank you for your reply.
No dice.
about 3 weeks backI posted 2 separate questions. But they are connected. The physical location of the NotePad program was changed from "Accessories" to "%SystemRoot%\system32\notepad.exe" by whoever was trying to access my computer. I set Norton to always deny access to this inbound connection. My computer runs fine; and I have more connection tries.
NotePad is listed under accessories but the target is changed. The shortcut it set to open in normal window. The "move" happend while I opened up NotePad to copy down the message on the screen. Odd thing - If I open a NotePad file Word will open it.
Yes, Dwight, I do use Notepad a lot - to save several small "copy" items, to compose a reply to AP, to copy my flashcards etc. --- someone mentioned it on "Jeeves" years ago.
Thanks Dwight - Have been doing it ever since. Great tip - I know for sure it was one of your posts.
I have given up on this and am using WordPad.
I had both NotePad and WordPad set to open with Ctl+Alt+N or W.(Learned that from Dwight too) The NotePad shortcut no longer works.
Thank you both for your help. MKS

I think somebody has peeked your computer with the "Remote Assistance" mode which should be turned off just a slim chance there is a trojan which has opened it and something tried accessing?
Or the Control Panel>Administration Tools folder Remote Assistance controls need inspecting Need assistance with these they are complex Confused
How did it get in?My guess...Windows Messenger
This should be disabled if you are not using it,either through the Admin Tools folder or there are remote turn off switches on AOL and Ad-aware (add-on tool)
If you are still getting Popups with security Programs in place then Windows Messenger is Open Mad
This Window must be shut OK?
I feel the next step would be to download Hijackthis(tiny file) Run the scan and submit its results to a specialist forum where knowledgeable people can tell you what must be removed (tick boxes) and press the "fixed checked button"
I'll give you an address if the first batch of Ideas don't make any improvement Wink
Do a reset of your computer. Then see if the Notepad controls can be set to display as you'd like them to be?
