I need to know asap... I sent (via email) a resume made using open office.org. Is microsoft word able to read this file. I know you can read microsoft word documents through open office but don't know if it works the other way around.
Thanks N2

Microsoft Word has a built in filter called: "Recover text from any file"

See this picture

You can use either that filter, or the "All Files" filter in the "Files of Type" box. If you see the file, you can then open it. So then, the answer is "Yes, MS Word can open the open office.org created file".

Please keep in mind, some of the fancy formating may be lost or mis-read.

A simple method of avoiding this problem entirely is to save the file as a .rtf or "Rich text format" file (Use File/Save As). That file type can be read correctly in any word processor or read as plain text in any text editor program.

I hope this helps!

Not totally sure about this but I now use Open Office - having used MS Office all my life - and it opens all Word docs that I've got or come across so presumably it's pretty much a two-way street.
