I'm trying to set up an ftp program called AceFTP. The instructions ask me to create a folder on my C drive where the downloaded audio files will be stored. I did that. The next page wanted to know the name of my "local" folder and my "host" folder. The local folder is apparently the one I created, but what is the "host" folder?

Thanks for all help ASAP. I need to get this going today, if possible.

The "Host" folder is the name of the folder where you will upload the files. They sometimes call this the "target" folder.

If you're uploading files for use on your website, this will be the folder that all files must be loaded into in order that they are accessible to web users.

I hope this helps!

Thank you Dwight my Prince, that is good to know. One more question: My employer says I must have an FTR foot pedal to listen to these files. The guy at radio shack says I don't need it at all, that my computer will play the sound without anything else. Could he be talking about through Media player or what?

Thanks, Big Guy

I assume the audio files that you're transcribing are in a .wav file format. If the file format is a "standard" format, just about any audio player should be able to actually play the files.
However, for one trying to transcribe the audio, I would think a USB connected foot pedal device would be much better. You could easily start and stop the playback while you're typing the words into your computer.

This Google search results page has additional FTR Foot Pedal information that you may find of interest.

Also, check this page.

Thank you, Dwight. Yes, they are .wav files. Due to health problems, I can only sit for long periods (over about 20 mins.) if I am in a recliner with my knees above my hips. Thus a foot pedal is difficult for me to use. A headset isn't as fast, granted, but...

Well, thank you for the link - I'll have a look at it right away.

You may wish to check with your Radio Shack store about a switch for the FTR Foot Pedal that would permit you to pause/play using your finger. What I have in mind is similar to the "push-to-talk" switch that air traffic controllers use. Your hands would be free for typing, yet you could pause/play the playback quite easily.

I suspect that a store specializing in adaptive equipment for the handicapped may have a switch ready made. Perhaps you will find an adaptive equipment store in your city.

Just for your information, this site is an ADAP store here in Alaska that I've visited several times. The equipment they have is really something to see.

Dwight, thanks to the links you gave me, I got a better idea of what I need, and after that, I was able to find it. It's called a WAVPedal, and although it's a bit expensive, it will do what I want to do.

Thanks again, Big Guy.
