Have you tried reinstalling the Star Office program? That may reinstall the missing VSR517MI.DLL file.

Thx for quick reply.

Afraid.

Bundled software on one cd. Came installed.

IF I reinstall the whole cd, I think I'll lose everything and have to spend hours downloading again. Only floppy backup, small files

Maybe Better to reset the registry to the day before the Sobig got me. Can I reset the reg back to August 16? No clue.

The devil is in the details...depending on your operating system and the manufacturer of your computer, you may be able to reinstall selected original programs. Often manufactures make a Recovery disk that will reformat and reinstall the system and another that will reinstall applications only. Sometimes these disks are run from the Start/Programs menu.

If you'd care to post the system details, perhaps we could assist you with researching your system recovery/restore options. This page may help with determining the information we would need.

If you prefer, you can go to your computer maker's site and look in their technical support section for restore information.

As to the idea of using the System Restore; you mentioned that your system was infected with the SoBig virus. Did you shut off the System Restore, then turn it back on after removing the virus? If not, using System Restore may reinfect the system.

Thanks for any help.

Have not restored the sytem to an earlier copy for two years. Only did it once.

If I restore the syytrm to a date a few days before the virus struck? Will that help me to get back the files I lost to the virus? Thanks. Sorry I'm not clearer.

Here's a thought...

Sometimes Microsoft OS updates or other applications interfere with how non-microsoft prodocts access dynamically loaded libraries (.dll's) If that's the case, and you don't have access to the original Star Office Suite, you can probably work around it like this:

1. Make sure all your Star documents are in a seperate directory.

2. Go to the Open Office.org site and download Open Office. Open Office is the original Star Office Source code, plus the enhancements that have been added by the Open Source Community. It will work almost identically to the Sun - Star Office, and it will handle any of the documents you created in Star.

If it works - just use Open Office for word processing instead of Star.
