Thank you for your quick reply, crescen7. I posted the question there and I while I awaited response, I got another email from my friend. She solved the problem herself!
In case anyone else has this problem in the future, here is what she said (with a very red face, I understand.)
"I was talking to my sister(who uses Quicken) tonight and telling her about the weird line that looked like a page break or such. Right away she said, "Are you sure you don't have the dates posted ahead cause I've had that happen if I enter in a cheque under the next day's date". I said I didn't think so but sure enough, the one transaction that I entered last night while the computer was doing strange things had the right year(02) but the next 3 months I entered today had 03 rather than 02. Duh!
Sorry for bothering you with this when it was something stupidly simple that I overlooked. I really thought it was caused by the weird thing my computer was doing last night, especially since only that one transaction showed up. Can you see my embarrassed face from your computer?"
I told her we all do that kind of thing every once in a while, especially if our computers are giving us trouble anyway. Crazy-making behaviour. After all, it's only "simple" after you find out the answer.
I also said I was glad she wrote back so next time, I'll be able to help someone with the same question. (After all, didn't she feel great when her sister's response solved her problem?)
So thanks again for your quick response.
