For those familiar with WordPerfect (or even Word) what exactly is a widow?

Thank you.

Catty:

A "Widow" is a single word left on the last line of a paragraph which falls at the top of a page.

Thank you, Sailracer! I was thinking it had something to do with the last line on the page, that's where I got confused.

Happen to know what an "orphan" is?

Direct from MS Word Help:
quote:
A widow is the last line of a paragraph printed by itself at the top of a page. An orphan is the first line of a paragraph printed by itself at the bottom of a page.
Hope that helps. Smile
