Hi Butter
I have been using EasyCleaner for 2 years now
To paraphrase a British ad "It does what it says on the box!"
If you think you have made a mistake there is an UNDO button which restores it to its previous state unless you have emptied the Recycle bin Red Face (set up as default Smile)
If Scanning Registry files anything with a green Light can go with no problem anything Yellow or Red in the list I'd keep hold of
There are lots of clear Help files on this program ,anything you are not too sure about post and we'll sort you out
The program is well written It finds only the bad stuff and it is a good set of tools to see into the workings of your computer Cool
PS If you intend to do a clearout, do it at the same time you are going to do a Defrag, and I'll guarantee your computer will really race afterwards Razz Cool

No it is totally different
I think Ad-aware can be too aggressive Frown It thinks all It scans is suspect You have to manually undo what you think is NOT to GO Frown Confused
Does not scan for bad registry items It has No undo cache Mad,Easy to crash computer if in the Hands of somebody who is not conversant with the items on the list Frown Red Face
I've done it Red Face

Easy Cleaner can be shown what to ignore and does have an UNDO cache Smile

A lot of the Items on EasyCleaner to go are the same as working elsewhere in Windows Add Remove Programs list(for uninstalling programs
Temp files and cookies deletion as in Internet Explorer
The control Panel bypasses lots of button pressing Cool
As Regards Registry Cleaning it is safe so long as you do not delete an item with a red or yellow dot against the name (even I don't know half the names Confused in this section)
If you want the 1 rule: If it is it can go Smile leave alone if it is: or

Here is how to run it: and make some room Smile
click on Registry
Window opens
The only Buttons you use are the Find and Stop buttons the others you can use "as & when" OK

How to scan:
Press the Find button
and the screen will above will start filling up
and continue(until you press the Stop button) or it finishes
I should point out that there is a Green indicator bar in the bottom left corner which shows how far the scan has gone Smile
(as it is your 1st time it will take a while Roll Eyes) but later scans it will take about a minute Smile
So assuming the scan has finished and you have this screen full of strange looking code
such as:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\DUIBags\
ShellFolders\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}
I dont know what it means but if it appears in this Window Easy cleaner thinks that it is Ok to delete If you look down the left of where it says HKEY_CURRENT_USER........ this can go Smile

Now look for the "Select All" button
all the list will turn biege now scroll down the list looking foe any Items which are colored : or ok
When you see one of these select the Item with your mouse turning the text Blue then press the CTRL key and the Item is now Unselected Wink

Until you gain confidence I'd recommend that you block delete a screenful a time and See how things go?
To do this select all the dotted items by clicking on each item while holding down the CTRL key then click on the Delete button(3rd from left)
and the screen is cleared Cool
Repeat till all you have left is red or yellows

Satisfied? Now all those deleted items are in the Recycle Bin where If you have made a mistake Red Face which is unlikely(with these instructions) the only way back is via a backup of the Registry being loaded
Easy to make. Ask Dwight for instructions on this. It will take you 5 seconds to make and save Cool
OK time to find out?..
Empty the Recycle Bin of all those files there will be a lot being your first time Eek
as I said earlier doing a defrag at the same time will give you a real boost in speed payback Cool So consider doing that Roll Eyes

Do a Reset or switch off and see if pages seem to load faster than ever? Where you do want to look is the System resources Percentage in system information If it is running well the number will be 90%+
If badly expect to see 50% or less Frown
though this number can vary due to other settings as well Roll Eyes

But Defragging and Flushing the Registry with Easy Cleaner every few months will keep it tuned sweetly Smile

Excuse me, bedstor and butter, but I just happened upon this and confess I am intrigued (and confused, and wary).

What does this program do, what sort of cleaning? Bedstor, you know my capabilities pretty well, should I try this? My machine is very slow to upload web pages; though I have defragged/scanned, I have never had the nerve to do Registry. I will abide by your advice.

To bring Catty up to date: Smile
Visit the site first for more Info then if you Like what you read then go to the other link and download the program
Here is the direct site link
http://personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts/ecleane.htm
The file download link is halfway down the page
And use the instructions above to clear the registry (Despite the wordiness it can be done in a few minutes)
And Catty? The Control Panel lay out is as simple to use as a basic TV remote Wink
Big Clear Pictures of what's inside, controls and everything else I have discussed are on the link above Cool
I tried posting them but they came out far too large for this forum Red Face(and difficult to edit Frown )

I have just cleared all the Unnecessary files off My hard drive including cookies and tempfiles without touching the Registry button
Totals?
10,522 files Eek= 115,807kbs = 113MBs space gained Eek
Only thing I have had to do is log onto sites manually to remake the cookies Frown and pages are a bit slow no temp file reference
what I did was open EasyCleaner selected the Unnecessary button with the Recycle bin pic on it when it opens untick the files you want to keep then click the Find button
And see the files clock up Razz (will take a while)

This section of EasyCleaners combines several other sections cleaning operations bar the Registry , Programs,
I think it is the best place to start for you
When It stops hit these buttons "Select all" then "Delete all" to transfer to the Recycle Bin for disposal later.
You can undo and restore the files by Hitting Restore from the Recycle Bin then hit the UNDO Key on EasyCleaner It is marked with a big red "First- aid" cross

Thank you, bedstor. As usual, I wasn't informed of your answer, so I'm late replying to this. I will definitely try it.

Hey, thanks for the tip, but I am very confused about the "Duplicate Files' part of it.
First, I have tons of those, but what I don't get is that as I pause on each of them to see the full name, say for example, I have three that are dupe's...But when I pause on them, the full name is not exactly the same in all three...or there are several, set into separate groups, that say admin..desktop ini. and that same is repeated, except the user name changes, one for guest desktop ini. one for me, and one for my son.
There are thousands of dupes listed... are those that are listed ALL duplicates, and the original files,or configuration settings ( or whatever category it says) are NOT listed?
I just don't get it, what I can delete, and what I can't. I did use the help function, but it's not very specific. It gives a couple of examples, but I'm afraid that isn't quite enough for me to understand the big picture of duplicate files.

If I knew how to post a picure of the example, I would. I took a 'print screen' snapshot of it, and would like to include it into my post but I don't know how to do that.

Concentrate on the Unnecessary files instead that gets rid of most of the duplicates (the non runners)
Tick all the boxes bar Browser History and Browser cookies file and press "Find"
I think its the best starting place
I cleared this the other day and I just ran it for fun and it produced 14078 files to go= 98818 KBs Eek takes over 5 minutes
When finished press the Select All then the Delete All buttons
move everting to the Recycle bin ,but if it is really huge amount then go to the front panel select Options(bottom row) click on the tab Unnecessary files and change the delete method to Permanent delete this will save your Recycle bin crashing your computer.Change it back when you have finished. The first time you do this it'll be a really big size to go Eek.Might be worth running a Defrag afterwards to fill the gaps that will add even more efficiency and speed Smile
If my machines accumulating that Frown I'm running this on a weekly basis in future Smile Just to keep my comp running at top speed.
