If a person reinstalled his system, why would his sound disappear? He has an HP Pavilion 8260, Win98. Does anyone know the multimedia audio card for this computer?
Thanks for any help!

Very possible ... Chances are, the drivers weren't loaded for the soundcard.. They sould be on the systemboard driver cd supplied with the computer or, available from the HP site.. Just do a search for the system drivers there..
Hi Tree, here`s a link to the site Murray refers to hp pavilion 8260 desktop PC (US/CAN) click on the Driver-Audio link in the "select one" box, seems the sound card is likely to be Ensoniq/Sound-Blaster.If I remember win 98 correctly, you can identify your sound card by right clicking on My Computer and selecting Properties then Device Manager, click the + sign next to Sound and your sound card should then be displayed.
