A friend is trying to run a program from the A: drive. He just called saying that his computer won't recognize the A: drive. The disc is not locked. Any ideas? Thanks in advance ....Bill
The most common cause, especially if the drive hasn't been used much, is that the drive connection may need to be pulled and reseated. This means (with the machine unplugged) physically going inside the box and unplugging and replugging the ribbon connector that goes to the back of the floppy drive, then putting everything together again and turning the machine on.
Keep an eye on the floppy drive when the power is turned on - there should be an LED in the face of the drive which will come on during power-up. If that doesn't happen, you may want to try reseating the power connection to the floppy (semi-rectangular piece of white plastic with wires coming out of the back of it).
If neither of these works then it's also possible that the floppy drive has bitten the dust - they do, and because they're one of the most common replacement items, they're also available cheaply at any computer store.
