I just bought a new computer with Vista on it. I cannot open a link with media player that I always open with no problem on my XP computer. There is nothing wrong with media player because I can open other links and I can play CD's with it.

Is there a setting I might be missing?

The item that maybe at the root of your problem is something called a Codec this is a coded driver which is Always downloaded with the main Driver but there is the Odd one that does have to come from another Location Some of the 3rd party Videoplayers have their own custom codec's

So you may get something the Plays on WMP, Realplayer and Winamp but not on Quicktime
Can I refer you to this posting(My discovery of the Potential of VLC) and Invite you to Try out VLC Media Player which comes with Codecs old and new and Plays Just about everything .Fail rate is Very low

The most common codec is DivX.

DivX

DivX Downloads

There is a free version and a paid version. I just have the free version and it allows me to play DVDs, movies etc. on Windows Media Player.

Thank you very much Bedstor and cswchan, I will look into both of those players.

My husband is a paid subscriber to the site he is trying to get into...so is it possible they have a special "codec" to get into it and maybe the company needs to help us get it?

Thank you again

Can you give us the Web address (URL) of the Site that Your Husband Uses?
It "may" be in the Cookie/s or in the Prefetch folder (if they still have it in Vista?) that the code may be kept, or B) You have to access the site via a "custom player" Or a certain route? Such as "HTTPS" (secure server)
We are close to diagnosing this issue Smile

Discovery...The Prefetch folder in Vista is called Superfetch Roll Eyes
