If anyone here is familiar with Corel WordPerfect, doesn't this program save backups somewhere? I hit the wrong button and lost a whole chapter and I don't want to write it all over again! I have tried "Find", the Recycle Bin, a restore program, everything I could think of.

Thanks for any help.

I'm fairly familiar with WordPerfect up to 8.0, Catty. It certainly can save backups automatically, and I believe the default is to save them every ten minutes. However, as with almost everything in WordPerfect, it can be reset to a different time interval or turned off. In any case, the timed backups are only useful if there's a technical failure of some kind. If you manually Save or Delete, the auto backup is deleted.

You could well have wiped your chapter. If a backup exists it will be in the folder where you save your WP documents and will have the extension .BAK. If you had previously saved the document at all it will be [filename].BAK.

Try a "Find" on *.BAK, and I hope you're lucky.

Well, Ewood, it worked - kind of. I found a lot of files with the BAK extension but couldn't tell if they were Corel/WordPerfect or what they were. Not named anything I recognize.

Maybe I'll have to call Corel.

Thanks for helping.

I've just done what I should have done before, Catty, and looked at my settings. In WP8 it's under Tools -> Settings -> Files. The default is for a timed backup every 10 minutes, to be saved in C:\Myfiles\Backup. My own folder is empty and I haven't emptied it.

If they're not there, you could try a long shot as described in this recent thread by Byter (the last item posted). Otherwise I think you're out of luck.

Thank you, Ewood. I found it, but there are only 2 files there, out of all the files I have created and saved! Neither is the one I want.

I'll check 'ol byter out.
