With winter fast approaching we may want to have something heavenly available to help get the heat back into us when we come in from the cold at day's end.
We used to serve this one in The Sea Island Lounge at Vancouver International back in the mid 70's. A lot of travellers coming in from the icy blast outside partook of this while they waited for their flight to be called.
Tummy Warmer
In a tall latte mug: - 1oz. Creme de Cacao - 1/2 oz. Creme de Menthe - 1 1/2 oz. Canadian whiskey - Fill to near top with hot chocolate (boiling) - Add 1 oz. chunk of dark chocolate and stir until melted - float a sprinkle of nutmeg and top with whipped cream and a marachino cherry (cherry optional) - supply a long handled bar spoon and serve while still hot
Obligatory warning note: This drink has 3 full ounces of booze. Contrary to popular myth, alcohol does NOT evaporate at less than 160 degrees. So unlike rum balls and such like baked goods where the alcohol disappears before consuming, here you are getting the full blast...despite the mellow taste of this drink. Take this into consideration before you do any driving or give one of these to your diabetic Aunt Nellie!
Side bar - If you don't have Canadian whiskey on hand (shame on you!) amber rum makes a good substitute. But don't try to swap bourbon for the rye whiskey, you won't be impressed.
