Since I was in the hospital about 18 months ago, I dropped my daily 2L Coca Cola habit for mostly water and fruit or vegetable juice. I even tried (and liked) cranberry juice; it was the first time I ate cranberries since the 1959 "cranberries cause cancer" scare when I was a child. But I find that juices are expensive. Apple juice seems to be the cheapest, but I also found a wide variance in flavor among "pure" apple juice brands. Of course, the cheapest one (the only one I can afford, 99¢) has the worst taste, and the other one I could afford just went from $1.19 for a half gallon to $1.59 in the last couple months, which puts it out of my price range. I really didn't like the idea of drinking only water for the rest of my life, so thought about the problem for a bit. I came up with this:
1 64 oz bottle apple juice (99¢) 1 pkg strawberry Kool-Aid® (I like strawberries.) (25¢)
It occurred to me that this might be an inexpensive way to get kids to drink more fruit juice. Kool-Aid® is available in many different flavors, adds no sugar, and has only 10mg of sodium. One glass of apple juice contains more than the RDA of vitamin C. This could also be a healthy party drink for kids.
