In another thread (King Krimson gets
the drinks in) I posted a picture of
several mixed drinks. One was a layered
red white and blue concoction in a
small narrow glass. My question is,
what is that called and how do I make it?

Dogspit, it sounds like a red, white and blue shooter.

Layer 1 shot of grenadine
1 shot of peach schnapps
1 shot of blue curacao

It helps if you pour each shot over the back of a spoon to keep the colors from blending.

Bottoms up! big grin

Here is another one, but this one is kind of potent!

Layer 1 oz of Aftershock
1 oz of Goldschlager
1 oz of peppermint schnapps

In that order, using the same spoon technique.

Cheers! big grin

It's hard to tell but my guess is, in this order, grenadine, blue curacao, and cream. Doesn't sound very tasty.

The drink can be made with many different types of liquor. The name of the drink is a Pousse-Cafe. Hope that helps.

'spit - As stated above, numerous combinations can be made this way. A sucessfull Pousse Cafe depends on two things: knowing the specific gravity (S.G.) of each liquor and layering the liquors properly. The spoon method is the traditional way, but if you are making several, buy some eyedroppers. I don't know if any of the more recent drink guides carry information on S.G., but if you can find a really old one, it should have quite a list. I used to make quite a few of these, and they're a pain in the a** for a bartender, especially some that require 5 or more layers. (I once made one with 9 layers. I still hate that guy.)

I use two straws to layer drinks, it works really well when you are trying to layer a drink in a tiny shot glass.

When you are layering a drink the ONLY proper way to do it is to run it over a cherry. Then, when the drink is made, you drop the cherry in the mouth of the person you made the drink for. (Be sure to not let go of the stem)

Back in my bartending days, this is how I did it...and male or female my tips were great! wink

Looky what I found!

http://cocktails.about.com/library/bldensity.htm

Density (specific gravity) list of liqueurs - another site mentioned that different brands of the same liqueurs can have different densities, you just have to practice.

This page has the recipes:
