This is the recipe I used to serve in my bar back in late 1975 or early 1976. (No, I am not claiming to have originated the drink. A bartender just got back from the East Coast and gave me the recipe. I may, however, have been the first in the St. Louis area to serve these.)

Long Island Tea

Build in a frosted Collins glass:

ice
½ oz. white rum
½ oz. vodka
½ oz. gin
½ oz. tequila
½ tripe sec
½ oz. sour mix (sugared lemon juice)

Fill glass almost to top with cola.
Add 7 Up or another sweet soda, or seltzer. Garnish with lemon slice, half, wedge, or peel. Serve with long soda straw.

Most recipes for this drink call for full ounces of each liquor. Do that and you will get people hammered in a drink or two.

Note: Wikipedia says the available evidence indicates that the drink was invented in the late 1970s. Obviously, that is wrong. I sold my bar in 1977.
