Question:
Today marks 18 months since I had my last cigarette and I truly feel like I've whipped that nasty habit once and for all.

I'm curious to know...if you quit smoking, what method worked for you?

(I quit cold turkey)

Choices:
Cold turkey
the "patch"
nicotine gum/mints
hypnosis
other

Congratulations Cyndi for having enough willpower to kick the nasty habit. I've never smoked so I couldn't answer the poll.

Me either Honi...but my mom quit recently.

She joined a support group held by a therapist. It was 6 weeks prior to quitting, where they did lots of exercise to break "psychological" part of the addiction. Like changing around normal cigarette times and things like that.

Then they set a quit date and met for 6 weeks afterwards. She has been smoke free for some time now.

I quit using the patch. Some people say the patch doesn't work, but it did for me. I still had all the cravings, just not as bad. It also helped me keep control of my mood swings.
I had quit before, but it never lasted more than a few months. Since I used the patch, it has been several years.

I also used the patch but I only used it for 3 days. I used it to get me started and then I went cold turkey over a long weekend.

The patch definitely helped me, but I had used it several times before and it was really my own determination that made it work this time. I think the first few days are really stressful so the comfort of knowing that I wasn't kicking the entire habit at once helped. And I really felt calm on it... good dreams too Smile

I have gone about 5 months now and I really don't think I'll go back to smoking.

I quit smoking 15 years ago. What worked for me was cold turkey. But I had to keep my hands busy. I took up crocheting to take my mind off of it. I will say this though, the craving never entirely leaves for all people. I started back 2 years ago.

I just started smoking last year when i was going through a very stressful time in my life. The stress is still here and so is the smoking but, sometimes I forget to even smoke a day or so and i am not allowed to smoke in the house at all so that is helpful.
