My toddler keeps turning on and off my computer, which is causing all sorts of problems. Is there something I can buy to stop her from being able to do this? Or, is it just a matter of accessing something already in the computer.

This is a situation where keeping the ON/OFF switch either out of view, or inoperable may be the best solution.

You can cover the computer so the switch is not so tempting. And you can unplug the computer when turned off, so the switch won't work.

If the problem occurs while you're using your system, perhaps you could put the computer out of the little ones reach?

I hope something here will help!

There are a couple of things U can do! U can get Windows XP so U can put a password on the main account! Cuz the GUEST account which needs no password won't allow U to delete any important system files or non GUEST desktop or other my documents and stuff! So that's solves the tampering part! Cuz just on and off shouldn't do too much harm except what U were working on! Cuz I have XP-PRO and It's pretty stable!

Or U can have the button on the front of the computer dissabled! Some BIOSes will allow U to boot form the Keyboard! And some will even allow a special set of keys to be used so as to confuse the little one! Or make your own password! So U know how to tun it on but they'll be too confused! And if the button is dissabled on the front of the computer it can't be turned off either unless U really know how like form the start menu! So they won't be able to do that either and problem solved!

Locking the Keyboard XP
This works on XP only
Press and hold the Control key and the "L"key together.
This will "Lockout" the keyboard until you reenter your Windows "password" (a bit awkward if you log on with none)
Note to AOL users Ctrl+L brings up the "Find member Online" box if connected, Minimise the AOL window to use this Tip

I just tried that and all it does is bring up an open dialog box in internet explorer. When IE isn't displayed it does NOTHING. Please check ur source.

I experimented with it and got the same results as yourself Frown
However...If you minimise all windows and press the "Windows Key"+L it drops you at the Change users screen on XP with your programs still running perhaps that is what the article should have said (they didn't listen to an Answerpooler Frown )
You have the option in Start>Control Panel>User Accounts to log back on with a password which can be setup here that will definitely "lockout" your computer Cool

I figured it out! Control L does nothing! It's WIN L! The key to the right of the Control key on the bottom left of the keyboard!
