I agree with the reset as mentioned by
cswchan above. However, if that doesn't work there are a number of other possible situations.
First, it matters what program that you're typing in. I would suggest that you open Notepad and try typing text into that. Start/All Programs/Accessories/Notepad
If your keyboard types correctly there, then the problem is most likely in the previous program, not the keyboard. For possible program errors:
1. Check the font and text color settings to be sure the chosen font works and the color is such that there is sufficient contrast. (For instance; white font on a white screen)
2. Look at the function keys and Keyboard shortcuts to see if you have accidentally activated one of them. You can look in the programs Help menu for assistance.
If you can't type into Notepad, then the problem must be with the keyboard itself. Possible causes included:
1. Do any other keys work? Try the number keys to see if they work.
2. Check for special format keys like an Fn key for instance.
Function keys3. Check for a "stuck" key. A key like the Ctrl or Alt key may be stuck and thus causing problems. This often occurs when a spill has occurred.
4. Weak batteries in the keyboard.
5. Placement of the wireless keyboard transmitter. Try moving it around to see if that affects the situation.
If you can't nail down a specific problem, and if you have a standard wired keyboard, I suggest you shut the computer down and disconnect the wireless and install the wired keyboard. Then try that. If all is well, it is surely the wireless keyboard that is the problem and it may be time to replace it.
I hope you will find something that is helpful!
