I am reinstalling my scanner(hp ScanJet 4300C). Everything appeared to go well & I was told that the installation was a success. However when I hit "scan" I am told that the scanner is not initialized. Checked & hard drive is up to date. Can find no trouble in device manager. Can anyone help me? I am in my late 70s & not that swift, so please go step by step.

Thank you

Hi Dublin40
Welcome to Answerpool
Can you tell us what operating system you computer is using
Windows 98 ,XP or something else?
The Drivers must match your operation system otherwise nothing happens if the wrong set are installed
Can get some for you but the download is 30 MB for XP will take a while to complete if you are on Dial-up (over Half an hour)

Hi Bedstor
Thanks for answering. I am using KP. I did go to an HP help site which checked & said that the driver was up to date. Please advise.

There is a 50/50 chance its a misinstall or the drivers are out of date on the Installation Disk(Happened to me recently on my Broadband Modem driver)
So what to do?
2 choices, 1) Reinstall the driver off your disk. Will overwrite the existing file and see if that works
Or 2) Go to this link and download the driver
When asked how to save it, save it as a file then you have a backup to save you downloading in future
Don't click the "Run when download complete" button (ok on small files) but its a time waster on larger files if you have not got Broadband Red Face
And when the download is complete it will run the Installation Wizard Program
May ask for permission to overwrite the old program and click on the "Yes to all" button if that appears? Smile
Then Post if you have any luck or not? Thanks

You're Welcome

How are you able to place a web hot link in your letter?

You mean a clickable link in your email?
Tell us what Email program you are using and I might be able to tell you how to make 1 or somebody else such as Dwight who is better at it than I am Smile
(They are all different Frown)
As for typing links into these pages just type the address in naturally and the link is made such as http://www.answerpool.com
The other method is to copy for example "The Answerpool address"
from the page click on the URL box above the topic you are typing there are 2 boxes . The upper URL box copy and paste the Answerpool address to Next copy and paste the text you want to the Title line, this becomes the underlined text that Masks the address
and it becomes:"The Answerpool address"
It does take a few goes to learn the knack but type in plain addresses even Answerpool.com or "The Answerpool site" is OK and somebody else can do the legwork Smile
I'm sure they don't mind.

Ok I use that too Smile
The Hyperlink Making Method they use is common to several other email programs.
Try this:
Open the Compose window to make a mail
Type Test or some words in ,
Next highlight the word/s as if you are going to copy it turns blue/white text
Next click on the icon with 3 links on a green globe to the right of the Yellow Smiley Smile icon. (The highlighted text is still there)
A script prompt box will appear which has "http://" in it. All you do now is type the web address in...and press Ok to make the link.
But,if you copy the Web Address first ...then highlight the text, then Paste the address into the box, then click the OK button, the Highlighted text will turn into a working Hyperlink Wink
Sounds awkward but may take a go or 2 to get a working link Smile
Make a Test email up with a Link and send it to yourself. That way you can find out if you were successful? They don't open when you are composing and you have to highlight them and check them with the Link Properties to discover whats behind the Link Frown
BTW You are not our oldest Member that honor Falls to FrankVan who is 85 and posts daily Smile
