can i watch a dvd movie (say lord of the rings) on my computer or do i need special hardware or software?

we have one tv in the house, and theres usually a video game being played on it, so it would be great if i could watch a movie on the computer.

Ya, you need a dvd player installed in your system... Looks like a cd-rom but will say dvd on it.

If you don't already have one, you can buy a Sony DVD-ROM drive (with software) for $43CAN at TigerDirect. Just make sure you have a free drive bay in your computer's case.

If you don't have a free drive bay or you have a laptop, TigerDirect is offering a Benq External DVD-ROM drive that connects to a USB port (it can also connect to a TV). The cost is $176CAN.

No need JW. I just went HERE and baught a USB external 3.5 or 5.25 drive enclosure for $42. so $42+$43=$85 instead of $176. Easy to setup. Just slip in internal DVD and attach cables already built-in. Then snap and screw it together.
