hi! i have a sony pcv-70 computer with a intel pentium 1(166) inside. it has windows 98 operating system and 32mb of ram. what i want to know is can it handel a AMD-K6 prosser? if so what are its cababilitys? can it handle a pentium 3? if you would reply i would be much abliged.

ps. when i lifted the heat sink off the pentium some white stuff was there and i accidently touched it. WHAT IS IT and WILL I DIE?!?!?

pps.the AMD proser fits in the socket 7 slot.

Howdy:

According to the motherboard specs, it will only handle pentium or pentium 166 or 200 processors with MMX technology..

The AMD won't work in it !!

The paste is used to better conduct heat from the processor to the sink. Touching it won't hurt you.

Howdy:

Simply went to the Sony website and searched that model number.. Found out it uses an Intel Board.. ent to Intel, searched the board and found out what I told you.. Infact, the processor requirements are the same for the 70 and 90 series.
